Background

This is the fourth year in a row that we conduct the Embedded Software Reliability Workshop at ISSRE. Links to previous ESR workshops begining ESR -2007 are given below.

We will bring together experts from several of the mainstream industry verticals to discuss the methods, practices and tools to produce systems with greater efficiency and quality. The one day workshop will feature a select set of talks and panels, followed by discussions on the major themes. This is a workshop and therefore invites participants to raise issues and engage in breakout sessions with other experts.

Take Aways
  • Tools for design and development automation and collaboration
  • Methodologies for in-process measurements, testing, and defect analysis
  • Case studies to share experiences of deploying tools or methodologies
Audience - Who Should Attend

This workshop will bring together experts, providers, and users of tools and technologies for developing and evolving embedded software systems. The users include makers of home appliances, televisions, telephones, medical instruments, automobiles, aircrafts, and heavy machinery and also the government organizations for space exploration and defense. The providers include software companies and experts from consulting companies, universities and other research organizations working with design and development of tools and methods for achieving higher reliability and greater efficiency.

Tentative Workshop Structure
  • Overview talks
  • Technical paper presentations
  • Panel discussion
  • Breakout sessions
  • Conclusions

Call for Participation and Contribution

There are three ways in which you can participate in this workshop. You can present a short technical talk on a subject relevant to embedded software reliability, serve on a panel, or lead a breakout session. This workshop encourages dialog and will engage everyone via discussion and breakout sessions. Contact us by email with your contribution ideas in either of these three categories.

Suggested Topics
  • Tools for design and development automation and collaboration
  • Methodologies for in-process measurements, testing, and defect analysis
  • Case studies to share experiences of deploying tools or methodologies
  • Advances in verification and validation (V&V) of embedded software
  • Best practices for software quality processes, models and initiatives
  • Case studies on certifying software in safety-critical applications
  • Application of model based design to embedded software
  • and other topics relevant to embedded software reliability
Submissions Process:

To Submit a proposal for a talk - send us a short paper. Ideally it should be between 2-4 pages. We do not expect a very detailed  paper, but one that has enough information for us to base a decision. If a paper is accepted, you are welcome to submit a longer version.  An alternative to the 2-4 page paper is a presentation (slides) that have around 10 charts with reasonable detail in the data and charts, so we can assess the presentation. The workshop committee will review the submissions and get back to the authors. A final program will be published in mid September.
